Role Details

Full Time | 13-month Placement | Hybrid (4+ days on-site)

01 July 2026 – 29 July 2027

About the Role

This 13-month sandwich placement offers a penultimate-year undergraduate the opportunity to gain hands-on experience within the Credit Risk function of a commodities trading business. The role provides exposure to counterparty credit risk management across energy and commodity markets, including margining, exposure monitoring, and credit analysis.

You will support the day-to-day activities of the Credit Risk team in a fast-paced, market-driven environment, gaining insight into how credit risk is managed across trading portfolios and counterparties. The role is designed to provide meaningful responsibility, strong technical and analytical development, and practical exposure to risk management within the commodities sector. You will also have exposure to industry peers giving you a chance to create a network of professionals.

Please note that to be eligible for consideration, candidates must be enrolled in a sandwich-year degree and available to commence their placement in July 2026. This will be a full-time role, owning the following responsibilities:

  • Support the onboarding of new counterparties by assisting with data entry in relation to agreements, credit support, financial statements, credit limits and internal ratings.
  • Assist with credit review preparation, which is a key process of the Credit management function. This includes the risk assessment of the counterparty by way of understanding the industry in which they operate and their financial standing (balance sheet, profit and loss account and cash flow statements).
  • Assisting with exposure monitoring and credit reporting, including daily OTC margining process, across trading portfolios.
  • Collaborate with other functions such as Risk, Legal, Operations and Finance to widely understand and mitigate the risks to our organization.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of credit reporting tools, data quality, and documentation.
  • Keep updated with market and industry developments.

About You

You are an analytically minded student with a strong interest in risk management, finance, and commodities markets. You are comfortable working with data, enjoy problem-solving, and are keen to understand how credit risk interacts with trading activity and market movements in a commodities business.

Education, Experiences and Skills

  • Currently studying towards a degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Eligible to undertake a full-time, on-site 13-month UK sandwich placement as part of your degree and available from July 2026.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills or above, including formulas (e.g. IF, SUMIFS, XLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH), pivot tables, and basic data validation.
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly, verbally and in writing, and work collaboratively within a global team environment.
  • Proactive, curious, and keen to learn in a fast-paced, market-facing role.

In addition, the following criteria is not required, but highly desirable for this role:

  • Previous internship, placement, or part-time experience in finance, risk, or a commercial environment.
  • Interest in commodities, energy markets, or trading environments.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Python for data analysis or automation.
  • Fluent or intermediate level of German and/or Japanese will be a plus.
