Job Description
We are offering a 12-month internship with the Human–Machine Interface Division (HMID) starting Summer 2026 at Microchip Technology. This position allows you to immerse in an industrial setting, learning about the full product development lifecycle, and gain insight into our industry and its technologies.
You will be part of the Microchip Human Machine Interface Division (HMID), responsible for developing multitouch capacitive sensing devices, known as maXTouch®.
Based in Whiteley, UK, the Business Unit is a centre of excellence for capacitive touch sensing. You will be working in a small but highly skilled team, as part of a wider organization both within the Whiteley office and worldwide.
You will be reporting to an appointed mentor engineer and will be part of the R&D, Firmware, or Applications Groups.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and testing of microchip products
- Validation testing for new products
- Development of software to enhance firmware simulator tool
- Updating firmware to increase compliance with industry coding standards
- Development of software for Unit Test and/or Integration Test harnesses
- Support for automated test strategies for firmware qualification
- Implementation/updating of custom test equipment
- Scripting execution of automated test sequences and recording of test results
Requirements/Qualifications
- Completed second year of Electronics Engineering degree (or similar)
- Previous experience working in electronics or related industry would be an advantage
Competencies
- Programming skills in C (preferably for embedded products) and/or C#
- Programming skills in Python or similar scripting languages
- Experience with debugging digital electronics, including familiarity with use of oscilloscopes and related equipment
- Excellent communication skills
