Forward Deployed Software Engineer, Internship - UK Government
Internship
A World-Changing Company
Palantir builds leading software for data-driven decisions and operations. By bringing the right data to the people who need it, our platforms empower partners to develop lifesaving drugs, forecast supply chain disruptions, locate missing children, and more.
The Role
Forward Deployed Software Engineers (FDSEs) work directly with customers to understand their toughest problems and design and implement solutions that use data to solve them. Projects often start with open-ended questions such as: How do we evaluate wildfire risk and optimize a power grid as a result? or How do we quickly assess our food supply chain and modify it to deliver life-saving assistance on time?
As an FDSE Intern, you will apply problem-solving ability, creativity, and technical skills to help organizations use their data to drive real-world impact. You will gain rare insight into, and contribute to, some of the world’s most important industries and institutions.
Core Responsibilities
As an FDSE Intern, your responsibilities resemble those at a small startup, with the resources, stability, and mentorship of an established tech company. You will work in small teams with minimal supervision and own end-to-end execution of high-stakes projects.
- Discuss system architecture with fellow engineers.
- Wrangle and analyze massive-scale datasets.
- Build and iterate on custom web applications and data pipelines.
- Collaborate directly with end users and customer executives to gather requirements and deliver value.
- Establish strategy and priorities for your team to achieve measurable outcomes.
FDSE Interns are treated like full-time engineers, with significant freedom and ownership. Interns take responsibility for real-world projects and outcomes that customers rely on.
Our Principles
- Impact: We tackle meaningful projects that change the world for the better.
- Ownership: We see projects through from beginning to end, navigating obstacles and managing time and priorities effectively.
- Collaboration: We work with teammates from diverse backgrounds—FDSEs, product teams, and Deployment Strategists—as well as externally with customers, often on site, to understand and solve their problems.
- Growth: We value experiential learning, seek new challenges, innovate, and share knowledge.
What We Value
- Willingness and interest to travel to client sites as needed (ability to travel 25–50% preferred; requirements vary by team and location).
- Ability to continuously learn, work independently, and make decisions with minimal direction.
- Comfort collaborating in teams of technical and non-technical individuals and working in a dynamic, evolving environment with user-focused iteration.
- Eagerness to creatively solve technical problems using data structures, storage systems, cloud infrastructure, front-end frameworks, and related tools.
- Interest in using large-scale data to solve valuable business problems.
What We Require
- Security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
- Engineering background, preferably in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, Data Science, or related fields.
- Proficiency with one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, TypeScript/JavaScript, or similar.
- Must be planning to graduate in 2027; this should be your final internship before graduating.
How to Apply
- Submit an updated resume/CV in PDF format.
- Provide thoughtful responses to the application questions.
Life at Palantir
We celebrate individuals’ strengths, skills, and interests from your first interview through long-term growth, emphasizing multiple pathways to success rather than traditional career ladders. We invest in the health and well-being of our community across all areas of life. Offerings may vary by region.
We believe we are better together, and in-person work fosters connectivity and innovation. Many teams offer hybrid options (for example, working from home one or two days a week) to support personal productivity. Some roles may allow remote work on an exceptional basis; for those roles, you must work from the city and/or country of employment. If a posting specifies Onsite, work from a Palantir office is required.
Equal Opportunity and Accessibility
If you want to empower the world’s most important institutions, you belong here. Palantir values excellence regardless of background. We are committed to making the application and hiring process accessible to everyone and will provide reasonable accommodation for individuals living with a disability. If you need an accommodation for the application or hiring process, please reach out and let us know how we can help.
