About the role:
This is an initial 18-month Graduate programme based in our biggest department (Housekeeping) providing an opportunity for the right candidate to gain hands-on experience and valuable insight and experience in the Housekeeping and overall resort operation as well as team management responsibility for up to 50 team members. During the 18-month programme, there will be an opportunity to attend internal management development programmes, certified training opportunities, and mentoring from our Senior Management team.
Reporting to the Estate Housekeeping Manager and working alongside our Assistant Housekeeping Manager this role will support the overall operation of the housekeeping department across the Resort including the House Hotel, Spa Hotel, Lodges, Retreats, staff accommodation, and our onsite Laundry.
The Graduate Assistant Housekeeping Manager role will:
- Ensure exceptional high standards of cleanliness and presentation are maintained, demonstrating a fine eye for detail and a strong work ethic.
- Lead, retain and develop the housekeeping and porter team and ensure that team members within the department are engaged and happy at work.
- Play an active role within the Resort management team and work collectively to help the Resort achieve its business objectives.
Responsibilities:
Team Management
- Maintain excellent communication within the department through daily briefings, monthly departmental meetings, and one-to-ones.
- Promote the personal development of team members through regular coffee chats, training, and motivation to ensure all staff are working to their full potential.
- Conduct a daily briefing to ensure all team members are aware of upcoming business and communicate what is expected from them.
- Review and analyse resource planning and staffing numbers in line with business levels and staffing budgets.
- Oversee weekly rotas, ensuring sufficient staff in each section. Complete weekly rotas and time sheets as required.
- Ensure Head Housekeepers and supervisors are completing training to required standards and in line with operating procedures to ensure all team members have the necessary skills to complete their roles.
- Assist with recruitment, interviews, and onboarding for new team members as required.
- Recognise and celebrate success within the department to ensure team members feel valued and engaged within their roles.
- Communicate regularly with team members via Viva Engage to recognise outstanding performance and Resort updates.
Operational Management
- Ensure all Health and Safety procedures are adhered to within the department and that all company SOPs are in place for the department.
- Ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and presentation are maintained across all areas and complete regular inspections to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Ensure that all accommodation is ready on time for check-in daily.
- Review guest satisfaction scores relating to housekeeping and cleanliness and respond to any feedback or comments relating to housekeeping standards.
- Ensure that guest requirements are actioned in a timely way.
- Oversee and manage budgets within department including annual changeover costs, staffing budgets, and supplies.
- Compile regular stock counts for linen, towels, cleaning products including hotel, lodges, retreats, and staff accommodation.
- Complete regular linen checks and orders to ensure they are all to a high standard and quality.
- Work alongside the Estates team to ensure day-to-day and long-term issues are resolved quickly and efficiently.
- Assist with any renovation programs, ensuring disruption is kept to a minimum and projects are delivered on time.
- Conduct monthly accommodation checks and walk rounds with Resort Manager.
- Provide hands-on support to the housekeeping and porter team and departmental operation as required.

- A recent graduate with an interest in hospitality operations

- Previous housekeeping experience is not essential but some knowledge of housekeeping operations would be an advantage— attitude, potential, and leadership interest are key.
- Able to re-locate to the Isle of Arran and attracted by our rural setting and island life.
