Overview
The CAD & Simulation Engineer will apply their expertise with specialised software to generate casting methods supported by the virtual simulation of mould filling, solidification, and cooling processes. The Graduate CAD and Methods Engineer is a technical engineering support role within the AMRC Castings group providing an enthusiastic engineer opportunity to grow into a technical role.
You will have a high degree of self-motivation, giving you the ultimate capability of generating casting manufacturing methods. The role will involve the use of a reasonable degree of mathematical principles and numerical models, and hence numeracy skills will be essential. You will communicate complex technical concepts to any audience and be comfortable with technical reports and design specifications, managing timelines, and building professional relationships.
Mentored by a highly experienced CAD and Methods Engineer, you will be shared technical knowledge and experience needed to succeed.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform detailed analysis and manipulation of information, data, or calculations, highlighting and prioritising any issues for further investigation and contributing to reports to support decision making.
- Support the CAD and Methods Engineer in handling resource distribution and quality assurance.
- Coordinate the effective maintenance of information and documentation, ensuring data and reports are updated as required.
- Carry out planning for short-term projects in the design and simulation area, or contribute to planning for the castings group.
- Plan and self-manage work and responsibilities over the short-medium term, with an awareness of longer-term issues. Use discretion to determine priorities and resolve conflicts to meet project targets.
- Take delegated responsibility for resource budget. This will include monitoring work priorities, highlighting any required corrective actions regarding resource planning within the project.
- Liaise and build relationships with the wider AMRC groups and attend meetings as required to support and represent project activities.
- Liaise closely with customers, service providers, and external contacts to support and represent project activities.
- Uphold the group’s reputation through outstanding project delivery and customer engagement.
- Support project teams in risk management and bring up issues promptly.
- Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental policies.
- Strong organizational skills with a focus on quality management and continuous improvement.
- Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.

Criteria
- Degree in materials, engineering, industrial design, or science related discipline: Essential
- Ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, both in writing and verbally: Essential
- Capability to produce design calculations, technical reports, drawings, and specifications: Essential
- Proactive, logical approach to diagnosing issues and finding solutions: Essential
- A growth mindset and enthusiasm to learn new tools, technologies, and methodologies: Essential
- Understanding of project lifecycles, including managing timelines, budgets, and safety risks: Essential
- Experience with industry-standard design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks etc.: Desirable
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and supporting project goals: Desirable
