We are looking for a Graduate Design Engineer to join the ICR Engineering team, based in Aberdeen.
Role Overview
The role involves supporting the assessment, design, documentation, and delivery of engineered composite repair solutions. This entry-level position is aimed at engineers developing technical competence in composite repair design, pressure equipment integrity, and international repair standards including ISO 24817 and ASME PCC-2.
Under supervision, you will review design data, prepare calculations, support engineering documentation, and assist with field and project delivery activities. Typically, graduates spend approximately two years at this level to build competence, which is indicative rather than fixed. The timeframe depends on individual progress, capability development, and business requirements, following which graduates can continue developing their engineering design career within ICR.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform composite repair designs for pipework, pressure vessels, tanks, and related equipment in accordance with ISO 24817, ASME PCC-2, internal procedures, and specific client requirements.
- Carry out engineering drawings using AutoCAD to supplement design calculations.
- Complete Excel-based calculations in accordance with ISO 24817, ASME PCC-2, internal procedures, and client requirements.
- Review design information such as inspection reports, photographs, isometrics, drawings, and site survey reports.
- Prepare draft engineering reports, repair summaries, sketches, material take-offs, and design input sheets.
- Support more experienced engineers in assessing piping and structural defects such as corrosion, erosion, wall loss, dents, gouges, and mechanical damage.
- Support operations for all aspects of products and ongoing repair applications. This technical support will involve interaction and discussion with the client.
- Support sales for all aspects of Technowrap products and technical enquiries, engaging with the client where necessary.
- Assist with the preparation of repair method statements, installation guidance, inspection requirements, and quality documentation.
- Develop an understanding of pressure equipment, composite materials, laminate design, bonding, surface preparation, curing, and repair qualification.
- Participate in project meetings, technical reviews, and internal engineering discussions.
- Support onsite technicians with design-related queries where necessary.
- Maintain accurate engineering records and comply with internal quality, safety, and document control requirements.
- Support out-of-hours engineering activities through participation in the on-call support rota, where required and deemed competent enough to do so.
Key Qualifications
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Basic understanding of mechanical engineering principles, stress, pressure containment, materials, and engineering calculations.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, piping isometrics, inspection reports, and technical specifications.
- Strong numeracy, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
- Internship, placement, or academic project experience related to oil and gas, pipelines, pressure equipment, composites, structural design, or asset integrity.
- Awareness of international engineering standards.
- Interest in professional registration, such as IEng or CEng in the UK, PE pathway in the US, or equivalent regional engineering status.
Application Process
Interested candidates are encouraged to apply by sending their CVs along with a covering letter.
