Your Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Hydrogeologist to join our Water team in Shrewsbury as part of the 2026 graduate programme. You will join one of the largest Hydrogeology teams in the UK within Stantec’s market‑leading Environmental Services group. You will support multiple clients across environmental, geotechnical and water disciplines, working with industry, regulators and water companies across the UK, and occasionally overseas.

The team provides services in:

  • Water resources
  • Groundwater modelling
  • River and coastal modelling
  • Flood risk assessment
  • Drought analysis
  • Climate change assessments
  • Hydrogeological impact assessment
  • Catchment management

What You’ll Work On

  • Assessing the impacts of climate change on the water environment and on water supplies, at both extremes of droughts and flooding.
  • Investigating the sustainability and impacts of water abstractions on dependent surface water and terrestrial ecosystems.
  • Developing conceptual understanding of regional aquifers and how groundwater interacts with surface water, including building numerical models to support regulation of groundwater abstraction.
  • Determining the potential risk of national infrastructure projects on the groundwater environment.
  • Designing new groundwater abstractions and monitoring borehole infrastructure.

Field and Office Experience

You will undertake a mix of technical field work and office‑based analysis, developing your ability to collect and analyse data and to conceptualise and quantitatively describe hydrological systems and processes.

Examples of work carried out by graduates in our team include:

  • Groundwater modelling
  • Collecting field hydrometric data
  • Geospatial data processing (GIS)
  • Water Framework Directive assessments
  • Hydrogeological impact assessments
  • Water quality modelling

About You

At Stantec, we value your potential over experience. Along with your bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geography, Environmental Science, or another relevant discipline, we’re looking for people who are:

  • An Adapter: able to remain calm in new and changing situations, comfortably switching between a variety of dynamic and exciting tasks.
  • A Perseverer: composed in the face of setbacks, approaching challenges with confidence and determination.
  • Focused: attentive to what matters, tuning out distractions to perform effectively in any situation.
  • An Eager Learner: curious and reflective, using experience and observation to anticipate how situations may unfold.
  • A Collaborator: effective when working with diverse people, considering others’ perspectives to shape better outcomes.

Working Arrangements

To support your development, we ask graduates to come into the office four days per week so colleagues can provide the appropriate level of support.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary
  • Private medical insurance
  • A range of benefits, including holiday buy and sell, group income protection and life assurance
  • Permanent employment contract to demonstrate our commitment to your long‑term career at Stantec
  • Professional progression plan, supporting you to become chartered with ICE
  • A supportive and collaborative team environment, Early Careers peer group, and wider Employee Resource Group network

Inclusion and Accessibility

We want to ensure all applicants have the same opportunity for success. Please let us know any support or reasonable adjustments you may need because of a disability, long‑term health condition, neurodiversity, or other personal circumstances, to enable you to perform at your best during the recruitment process. A member of our team will be happy to assist.
