Within the MEH Alliance, Altrad plays a key role in delivering Mechanical, Electrical, and HVAC scopes on major nuclear new-build projects in Somerset.

Role Overview

We are seeking motivated and technically capable Graduate Mechanical Engineers to support the delivery of mechanical engineering activities within the MEH Alliance.

This is a fully site-based role, offering hands-on experience on a major nuclear new-build project within a highly regulated and safety-critical environment. Working as part of an integrated alliance delivery team, you will support mechanical design implementation, construction, installation, and commissioning activities, while following a structured graduate development pathway toward professional accreditation and Chartered status.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of mechanical engineering activities across MEH work scopes
  • Assist with the implementation of mechanical designs, specifications, and work packs on site
  • Support installation, inspection, testing, and commissioning activities for mechanical systems
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, method statements, and reports under supervision
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors, and client representatives to support safe and efficient delivery
  • Participate in site walkdowns, inspections, and progress reviews
  • Ensure mechanical works comply with nuclear regulatory requirements, project specifications, and company procedures
  • Promote a strong safety culture and comply with all health, safety, and environmental requirements
  • Support quality assurance, defect resolution, and continuous improvement activities
  • Actively engage in graduate training, mentoring, and professional development activities

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong interest in mechanical engineering within construction, manufacturing, or nuclear environments
  • Good technical understanding and problem-solving capability
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work within multidisciplinary site teams
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work to deadlines in a site-based environment
  • Willingness to work within a highly regulated and safety-critical industry
  • Previous industrial placement or site experience is advantageous but not essential

Security & Eligibility Requirements

Due to the nature of the projects and secure nuclear environment:

  • Applicants must be Sole British Nationals
  • Applicants must be eligible to obtain UK CTC (Counter Terrorist Check) security clearance
  • Appointment is subject to satisfactory security clearance and background checks
