The Role:
Within the Careers and Employability Service, the Student and Graduate Opportunities Team source and provide part-time work, internships, volunteering, and graduate jobs for students and graduates. The Graduate Recruitment Consultancy is part of this team, responsible for building and managing relationships predominantly with local SMEs and increasingly some larger national employers, providing a bespoke recruitment service, inviting them to events and making introductions to other business areas within the university.
The Graduate Recruitment Consultant's primary function is to place graduates in graduate-level positions with local employers and gain new business for the University through an effective sales operation. They will be targeted to achieve new business by sourcing new graduate opportunities to present to both final-year students and graduates of up to 5 years. They are also targeted on the number of graduates they place. The Graduate Recruitment Consultants will be required to generate new leads, communicate with employers, students, and graduates, and place graduates from a wide portfolio of courses. Private sector placements generate revenue for the university and consultants need to inform and agree on the payment of this fee with these employers.
Each consultant is responsible for developing and maintaining links with employers and growing opportunities in key sectors. Working with academic staff, careers advisers, and graduates, they ensure that both roles and the service itself are promoted successfully, expectations are successfully managed, and a high level of customer service is maintained.
The duties of this role are undertaken within the context of the Employability Operational Plan 2026 and the wider University Strategy.
The working pattern for this post is 30 hours a week working over 5 days (Monday – Friday).
Whilst there is a need to be in Portsmouth a few days a week, hybrid working is available for this role for 1 day per week.
The interviews are currently anticipated to be held on 12 May 2026.
This appointment is a fixed-term contract until 31 May 2027 (or the earlier return of the substantive post holder) to cover a period of maternity leave.
