Kickstart your career in sport and education – Graduate or Gap Year Sports Assistant (Junior School)

Are you a recent graduate or gap year student with a passion for sport and a desire to inspire the next generation? We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Sports Assistant to join our Junior School PE and Games team at Haberdashers’ Girls’ School on a fixed term basis for one year.

Whether you’re considering a career in teaching or sports coaching, this is a brilliant opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a supportive and dynamic school environment. You’ll work with pupils from Reception to Year 6, delivering high-quality coaching, supporting lessons and clubs, and helping to foster a love of sport and physical activity.

What the role involves:

  • Supporting PE and Games lessons, team-teaching and leading small groups
  • Coaching in one or more key sports – Netball, Football, Cricket, Swimming, or Athletics
  • Assisting with lunchtime and after-school clubs, including squad training and fixtures
  • Officiating and coaching at school sports events during the week and on some weekends
  • Supporting the setup and care of equipment and facilities
  • Helping with admin and logistics, such as pupil tracking and fixture planning
  • Supporting the wider co-curricular and sporting life of the school

Who we’re looking for:

You’ll need strong communication skills, energy, and a genuine interest in working with children. Experience working with young people is a bonus, and a background in PE, Sport, or a related field is desirable. Most importantly, you’ll bring enthusiasm, initiative, and a positive attitude.

You might also have:

  • Coaching qualifications in one or more sports
  • A lifeguarding qualification (or be happy to gain one – we can provide training)
  • Experience in schools or youth sports environments
  • A keen interest in exploring a career in education or coaching
