You will work in hydrodynamics, maritime and coastal processes. You will learn fast, supported by regular career conversations underpinned by an individual development plan.
Within our Coasts and Oceans Group, projects involve modelling of hydrodynamics, maritime and coastal processes. We predict waves, water levels and currents for the design of coastal structures and investigate the impact of developments such as offshore wind farms, harbours or coastal developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Work confidently with data to find solutions and interpret measured and hindcast metocean data.
- Contribute to metocean and computational wave and wind modelling studies.
- Support the preparation of bids for metocean and coastal wave modelling studies.
- Contribute to the development of in-house tools and models.
- Participate in internal forums, working groups and conferences to stay current with industry best practices and be at the forefront of research and technology.
Job Requirements
- BSc/BEng and preferably MSc/MEng or PhD in a relevant field (e.g. oceanography, meteorology, applied mathematics, physics, civil engineering).
- Experience in estimating metocean extreme values for design criteria, including the quantification of uncertainties (desirable).
- Experience in the application of numerical wave and wind models (e.g. SWAN, SWASH, WRF, WASP) (desirable).
- Experience in programming using one or more languages: Python, MATLAB, R.
- Highly numerate with confidence working with data and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Strong, effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Collaborative team player.
- Good attention to detail, record keeping, presentation and report writing skills.
- Adaptability and self-motivation.

- Salary from £30,000, depending on experience.
