What you’ll be working on
Our HR Projects team leads people‑focused change across the division, helping to improve processes, systems and the overall employee experience. We use structured project management, clear reporting and strong governance to keep initiatives on track and make sure change is delivered smoothly and effectively.
As part of the evolving HR Operations plan, we're strengthening how we report on projects. Progress updates feed into a developing Power BI dashboard that we’re redesigning to be clearer, more visual and more useful for senior leaders. By working closely with project managers and using consistent templates, we identify key risks, issues, dependencies and areas of impact across the organisation. We’re also exploring creative ways to present this information, such as visual heat maps that show who is affected, when and how.
Communication is another focus area. We’re reviewing what messages go out, when they’re shared and which channels are used, so we can create a more joined‑up communication approach across the project portfolio. We’re also looking at resource planning across HR—understanding the demand for support and comparing forecast vs. actual workloads. Alongside this, we’re improving how we demonstrate project outcomes and benefits, including exploring better Power BI visuals, automation opportunities and early uses of AI.
During the eight‑week internship, you’ll gain hands‑on experience by contributing directly to this work. You’ll support project planning, help track risks and issues, and feed into progress reports. You’ll develop practical skills in organisation, communication, analysis and problem‑solving, as well as confidence in presenting information through clear, engaging slides and discussions.
By helping enhance processes and improve reporting approaches, you’ll gain valuable insight into how project management works within a fast‑paced HR environment. By the end of your placement, you’ll have meaningful experience you can use in future interviews and a strong understanding of how effective project governance supports teams across HR.
How we’ll support you
You’ll be supported closely throughout your internship, both within HR and as part of our wider Internship Programme.
In your first week, you’ll spend dedicated time in the office with your Placement Manager getting to know NFU Mutual, the industry and the regulatory landscape we operate in. You’ll complete corporate induction learning, receive systems training and agree placement objectives, including your end-of-programme presentation brief.
Throughout the 8 weeks, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals who regularly engage with senior leaders across the organisation. You’ll see first-hand how we influence, advise and challenge at all levels of the business.
Alongside your team experience, our Early Careers team will support your wider development. You’ll attend networking events with fellow interns, take part in a presentation skills session to help you prepare for your final showcase, and benefit from structured feedback conversations to help you reflect and grow.
We’ll trust you with real responsibility, but you won’t be left to figure things out alone. You’ll receive guidance, stretch opportunities and regular feedback, while also being encouraged to manage your time effectively and take ownership of your work.
By the end of the programme, you’ll deliver a final presentation on your project and leave with tangible experience, stronger commercial awareness and greater confidence in your own capability.
Application Process
Our application process is designed to be straightforward and focused on your potential. It includes an online assessment, a pre-recorded video interview and a virtual, skills-based interview with members of the team. We’re interested in how you think, communicate and approach problems rather than whether you’ve done this before.
Please note that you must have the right to work in the UK for the full duration of the internship, as we’re unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role.
This vacancy may close early depending on application volumes, so we’d encourage you to apply as soon as you feel ready.
About you
You’re someone who’s curious, proactive, and excited to learn how structured project delivery can create real change in an organisation. You don’t need any previous project experience, just the willingness to get involved, ask questions and share your ideas confidently. You’ll be on track for at least a 2:1 degree, and while your subject isn’t important, your interest in how HR uses data, technology and ethical AI to improve the way people work definitely is.
If you enjoy solving problems, working with others and thinking creatively about how to make processes better, you’ll thrive in this placement. Any previous work experience, especially roles where you’ve communicated with people, used digital tools or worked as part of a team, is helpful but not essential. What matters most is your potential, your enthusiasm and your willingness to learn.
You’ll get the most out of this internship if you’re motivated by learning, confident using digital tools, and eager to contribute to meaningful work that supports colleagues across the business. Above all, you bring a positive attitude, a growth mindset and the confidence to collaborate- if you can bring those qualities, we can teach you the rest!
We’re particularly looking for people who can demonstrate:
-
Strong communication skills – confidence building positive working relationships and sharing ideas clearly
-
Digital literacy – especially with Microsoft 365 tools such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint; Power BI is desirable but not essential
-
Analytical skills – the ability to interpret information, spot themes and draw meaningful insights
-
Creative thinking – being open to new ideas, visual approaches and innovative ways to present information
-
Organisation and time‑management – balancing tasks and prioritising effectively in a fast‑moving environment
-
Initiative and curiosity – a proactive approach to problem‑solving and improving processes, with enthusiasm for delivering high‑quality outcomes

We're proud to be a Disability Confident Employer, a Race at Work and Women in Finance Charter signatory and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, regardless of age, ethnicity, disability, neurodiversity, gender, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background.
