Role description

Here at Envisics, we are an internationally based automotive technology company with an ambitious goal to redefine and revolutionize the next generation of in-vehicle experience with the development of an industry-leading Augmented Reality Head-Up Display.

Using the innovative technology of phase-only holography, we are making this a reality!

We’ve already assembled some of the world’s top scientists & engineers from worldwide renowned companies and due to our success and growth, Envisics is now looking to open the doors to entry-level talent, in the form of three industrial placements. Industrial placements last for 1 year and are for undergraduate students.

Summary of Role

  • The candidate will work within the core team responsible for developing Holographic Spatial Light modulators. Envisics develop SLMs from Silicon design and Liquid Crystal research through to fabrication and final assembly. This requires novel metrology techniques and an understanding of SLMs in a holographic projection system.
  • Role will include laboratory work, measuring performance of SLM Device characteristics, collecting and analyzing data and presenting results to the design team.
  • Depending on the suitability of the candidate some Design of Experiment and Root Cause Analysis tasks may also be involved.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use a range of measurement techniques to evaluate novel Holographic Spatial Light Modulators.
  • Where necessary, automate measurements to increase throughput and speed of data gathering.
  • Where necessary, use computational modeling tools to further enhance understanding of device performance.
  • Interact with wider R&D teams to present the results of measurements or modeling activities.

Minimum Requirements

  • Studying at undergraduate level: physics or engineering related subjects.
  • Sound basic knowledge of optics, principles of diffraction, and physics.
  • Experience of laboratory work, at undergraduate level or above. Specifically, laser-based optical experiments.
  • Knowledge of Spatial Light Modulators (LCOS) would be useful but not essential.
  • Scripting and programming skills are beneficial, e.g., Matlab, Python.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan experiments, design and build test equipment, carry out measurements, record results, and analyze data (programming skills useful but not essential).
  • Demonstrated good communication skills – report writing, presentations, team working.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft tools: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint desirable.
