The Role
We are looking for a curious and analytical Insight intern to support our Insight team in turning data into meaningful, actionable insights. The insight team gathers and analyses research and data to strengthen decision-making and help generate value for the business and our customers. Using the data, you will work with analysts to help uncover trends and understand customer behaviour across our retail/office assets.
The research we conduct as a team includes running surveys as well as analysing other data sources such as mobile GPS and banking data to see how shoppers behave at our sites. We are also responsible for collecting data such as footfall and sales figures to help understand how our assets are performing. We are a team off our individuals based in London who work with a huge variety of different stakeholders throughout the business.
The Insight team tackles big questions such as:
- How are our assets (Shopping centres, Retail parks and Offices) performing?
- How many people are visiting?
- Whatis the demography of the visitors?
- How well are the retailers doing?
- What does the local catchment look like at our assets?
- What do people think ofour assets?
- What can we do to improve them?
- Which new shops, food and leisure options would work at each asset?
As a Summer Intern in the Insight Team, you will help undertake analysis and primary research into these and other high-profile questions andfind ways to communicate these findings through visualisations/dashboards.
What You’ll Do
During your 6 weeks with us you will work together with your team on projects that feedback into our business and support our expert people. In addition to this, we will run an internship timetable consisting of tours, talks and networking sessions – so you can get a tangible feel for life at British Land.
You will have the opportunity to explore a career in insight / real estate to inform your post-university career choice and give you a better understanding of the industry.
On a day-to-day basis you’ll:
- Develop your knowledge and understanding of Real Estate, data analysis, data visualisations and insight generation
- Analyse and visualise data to create insights to support the leasing of our retail units. This might involve using specialist software (GIS) to draw maps or catchments and create tables that profile the shopper demographic of a particular area or retail brand. This will be used by our Leasing team to help attract new retailers to one of our shopping centres/retail parks.
- Support with the day-to-day running of our exit survey programme – this is a series of surveys across our retail assets that capture the views of thousands of shoppers on how our sites are performing. Support could include reviewing / designing question sets, helping with survey logistics and helping to communicate findings with our internal teams
