Role Overview
As an FPGA Hardware Design Intern, you’ll work alongside industry experts in an Agile environment, gaining hands-on experience in hardware and software co-design. From day one, your ideas will matter, and you’ll contribute to real-world projects that shape the future of digital systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the full development lifecycle of FPGA IPs and systems—from concept and specification to implementation, verification, and release.
- Develop SoC (CPU + FPGA) designs for advanced video and analytics applications.
- Model and prototype new architectures.
- Optimize FPGA-based board support packages.
- Collaborate with local and global teams, and occasionally interact with customers.
About The Internship
- Duration: 13-month fixed-term placement.
- Eligibility: Must be currently enrolled in a UK-based university on a relevant degree (Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or similar).
- Eligibility: Ideal for 2nd or 3rd-year students enrolled in a degree with an industrial placement year.
- Location: Altera Europe HQ, Marlow, UK

Qualifications
- Strong digital design skills (FPGA or ASIC) using Verilog/VHDL.
- Programming experience in C/C++.
- Scripting knowledge (e.g. Python, Tcl).
- Curiosity, self-motivation, and a collaborative mindset.
- Excellent communication skills.
