Internship Opportunities 2026
GMC Internship
Location: Manchester with some homeworking
The GMC will be running a six-week Internship Programme over the summer with a start date of 13 July 2026. Why not join us to see what it's like to have a career in one of the largest healthcare regulators in the UK?
The General Medical Council (GMC) regulates some of the most diverse professions in the UK. We work with doctors, physician associates (PAs), anaesthesia associates (AAs), those they care for, and other stakeholders to support good, safe patient care across the UK. We set the standards doctors, PAs, AAs, and their educators need to meet and help them achieve them. If there are concerns these standards may not be met or that public confidence in doctors, PAs, or AAs may be at risk, we can investigate and take action if needed.
Our organisation is built on fairness and trust – the trust of patients and the medical profession. We provide an inclusive working environment where everyone is valued and welcome new perspectives and ideas that you may bring. As it’s important that we can relate to the people we serve, we are looking to attract a wider pool of talented, skilled, and experienced people from different backgrounds to ensure we have a better understanding of the needs of our diverse registrants and the diversity of the communities across the UK.
We welcome applications from all individuals and particularly from an ethnic minority background, socially or economically disadvantaged background, or those who have a disability as members of these groups are currently under-represented in GMC. All appointments will be based on merit.
Qualifications
You could be in your final two years at university in any degree subject (or equivalent) and have a real interest in developing your employability skills or understanding what it’s like to work at a healthcare regulator. We just want to see that you have a real interest and enthusiasm to make a difference, can work in a team and with people at varying levels of ability and responsibility. Our aim is to find people with potential like you, helping you to grow and thrive and build a successful and rewarding career.
Opportunities
We have a range of opportunities available across the GMC. Our intern roles will be based in our Manchester office, and will be supported with some homeworking.
Salary and Benefits
You can expect to be paid the UK (£13.45) Real Living Wage for your hours worked, and flexible working opportunities are available. You’ll find a relaxed and friendly working environment. Your internship will be a great way to prepare for one of our roles in the future.
Application Details
Deadline: The deadline for applications is Sunday 22 March at 23:59.
We will be running a virtual session on Tuesday 17 March at 12 pm for you to find out more about the GMC and the intern roles. This will also provide you with an opportunity to ask any questions. Please register your interest.
The GMC values diversity and has made a public commitment to processes and procedures that are fair, objective, transparent, and free from discrimination. We are committed to the Disability Confident employer scheme and support its principles. However, please note that although we are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion, the Disability Confident interview scheme will not be applied for this role on this occasion.
We’re a charity registered in England and Wales (1089278) and Scotland (SC037750).
