If you want to try teaching before you commit to full-time training, the Lift Schools Paid Teaching Internship offers the perfect opportunity to explore the classroom this summer. Funded by the Department for Education, this programme provides practical school based experience, helping you decide if teaching is the right path for you.

Paid Summer placement details

This three week internship takes place during the summer term in June and July. Participants will receive a payment of £455 per week for the duration of the three week placement. During your time with us, you will:

  • Observe lessons and support pupils in their learning.

  • Co-plan and deliver parts of lessons alongside expert teachers.

  • Collaborate with inspiring mentors on meaningful school projects.

  • Build your classroom confidence and professional skills.

Eligibility for the teaching internship

To apply for this programme, you must be planning to teach in England and have the right to work in the UK by the start of the internship. This internship is specifically designed for:

  • Undergraduate students in their 2nd, 3rd, or final year.

  • Master’s students.

  • Students who have not participated in the programme previously.

Note: While first-year undergraduates are not currently eligible to apply, you are encouraged to register your interest for next year's intake.

Subject specialisms

We are looking for students with a passion for their subject who want to make a difference in the classroom. Eligible applicants must be studying one of the following subjects:

  • Mathematics

  • Physics

  • Chemistry

  • Computing

  • Modern Foreign Languages

Participating school locations

You will have the opportunity to work in one of our Lift Schools across England. Our participating schools for the 2026 programme are located in:

  • North East Essex

  • Bristol

  • Tamworth

  • Richmond

  • Hounslow
