The Centre for Doctoral Education (CDE) undertakes research to inform, challenge and develop doctoral education internationally. Our work explores the experiences, practices and achievements of doctoral students, supervisors and early career researchers. We draw on this expertise to offer doctoral programmes within our own institution, supporting the largest concentration of doctoral students studying education and related social sciences in the UK.

About the role

The main purpose of the Post Graduate Teaching Assistant role within the Centre for Doctoral Education is to facilitate sessions for doctoral students that form part of the IOE’s research training programme, which may include (1) the IOE MPhil/PhD Core Course; (2) the post-upgrade workshop; (3) Qualitative Data Analysis; (4) Quantitative Data Analysis Courses (5) the IOE Doctoral Community student-led engagement scheme (6) IOE CDE Poster Conference, Summer school and Conference and 3 Minute Thesis Competition.

These posts are available from 22nd September 2025 to 31st July 2026 and are open to current UCL students only.

About you

You will be educated to a Masters degree level (or having equivalent experience), in a related field and be working towards a PhD in a social sciences subject (on completion of the PhD, you will no longer be eligible to participate in this PGTA scheme).

You will have an interest in relevant methodological issues and the ability to provide constructive suggestions on student proposals.

Your application form should address all the person specification points and should clearly demonstrate how your skills and experience meet each of the criteria. It is important that the criteria are clearly numbered and that you provide a response to each one.
