About The Role
We’re WWT, the charity for wetlands and wildlife. We’re on a mission to restore wetlands because they are a wondrous solution to the problems our world faces. Together we will unlock their power – and help nature burst back to life. Because when wetlands flourish all life will flourish.
At WWT our people are instrumental, and we want to inspire future conservationists to help lead the way. This learning and development placement is designed to provide experience and skills development in the following areas:
- Practical wetland reserve management
- Wildlife surveying and monitoring (especially wetland species)
- Visitor engagement
You’ll work within the Reserve team at Martin Mere, developing an understanding of the fundamental elements of what it takes to manage a wetland for people and wildlife. This role is a great opportunity for people looking for experience in practical conservation as a reserve warden or similar outdoor career.
About You
- Someone ready for their first paid position in the sector.
- Passionate about the world of conservation and the importance of making a difference for future generations
- Ability to work cohesively within a team whilst still undertaking tasks independently when required
- Capacity to be both proactive and reactive, as no two days are the same, and staff will often have to react quickly to situations outside of their control
About Us
We’re WWT, and we’re on a mission to restore the super-powered ecosystems we call wetlands. There’s never been a more important moment for our work, and we’ve got some phenomenal people on the case.
Whether they’re taking a new visitor under their wing, or conducting ground-breaking research further afield, our team are second to none. And there’s nothing we love more than watching them soar.
Whatever you do here, you’ll be helping to restore wetlands and unlock their power. So, the only question left is, what role will you play?

- Wake up every day knowing your work is helping to restore wetlands, and our world
