Life in Research Development Quality (RDQ)

As an intern in R&D at Mondelēz International, you’ll take ownership of projects. You will contribute to the future of snacking by keeping the consumer at the heart of our innovation. Deliverables may include producing technical reports and presentations, sharing insights with stakeholders and fostering transparency and collaboration. You will have the opportunity to work with the broader RDQ community, business functions, and external suppliers, building your network and confidence. Beyond your primary project, you may support ongoing activities, gaining diverse experiences and contributing to a sustainable future. For some roles, occasional international travel may be required.

About the role

The MDLZ R&D Engineering teams, Process (regional & global) and Modelling & Simulation (M&S) teams, enable business growth and productivity initiatives by developing fundamental understanding of our manufacturing processes and applying engineering creativity. This knowledge enables the installation, commissioning and optimizing of manufacturing lines for a financial benefit, as well as to innovate & develop new manufacturing processes, leveraging digital tools to accelerate all areas of process development and deployment.

Key responsibilities

  • Owning & managing project tracks

  • Planning, organizing & running trials

  • Writing trial plans, technical reports & recommendations

  • Developing roll-out and commissioning plans and validation studies

  • Stakeholder management including presentations

  • If there are opportunities, able to travel overseas, for plant trials/commissioning work

MEU Region - Process

In the regional process team, the work is predominantly developing and deploying projects directly into factories across our European network. The nature of the work varies from developing new products to deploying complex breakthrough projects along with the Global Process team. The team requires good problem-solving skills alongside clear communication with a range of different stakeholders.

Global Process Development

The global process team leads the development of new breakthrough technologies and processes for applications across MLDZ’s entire confectionary portfolio, to enable step change improvements to MDLZ’s existing manufacturing capabilities. The team enables growth by developing process technologies that unlock new capability for innovative product development, and productivity opportunities by increasing efficiencies in our end-to-end manufacturing processes, all whilst minimising cost and environmental impact.

What we’re looking for

Education: Working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering, or similar technical field, with a predicted end grade of 2:1 (or equivalent) - e.g, Chemical/Mechanical Engineering (candidates from other disciplines with strong technical Maths/Science background will also be considered)

  • Strong understanding of Mathematics and Physics

  • Self-drive and motivation

  • Naturally inquisitive and passionate about technical excellence and scientific understanding and can apply fundamental knowledge practically

  • Can work with a level of autonomy, as well as works well in a team

  • Demonstrates strong analytical, communication and presentation abilities

  • Pro-active, highly motivated, ready to take on new responsibilities and build good relationships

  • Organisation and planning skills

  • Good working knowledge of MS Office

This position does not meet the minimum salary requirements for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Therefore, we are unable to consider applicants who require sponsorship. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK.

Additional desirable skills

  • Knowledge of Python

  • Experience with 3D / CAD modelling

  • Statistical data analysis

Starting salary: £23,000

We will be holding our final stage assessment center for this role in-person at our Bournville offices on Tuesday 25 of November 2025. Reasonable travel expenses will be covered.
