As a graduate in this function, you’ll combine engineering, analysis, and judgment to help manage risk, influence design, and support safe decision-making. You’ll work alongside experienced specialists, regulators, and technical leaders — gaining exposure to real-world challenges and building expertise in a highly respected profession.

Specialist Pathways
You will join one of the following specialist teams:
E3S Graduate (Environment, Safety, Security & Safeguards)
Focus: Designing and maintaining safety systems that protect people and operations.
About the Role: In this role, you’ll help ensure that engineered safety systems and environmental protections perform exactly as intended.
Ideal For Graduates Who:
- Enjoy systems thinking
- Like seeing theory applied in practice
- Are interested in sustainability and resilience
- Want hands-on technical involvement
Internal Hazards Engineer
Focus: Managing risks from events inside facilities and systems.
About the Role: Internal hazards are events that originate within operations — such as fires, flooding, equipment failure, or human error.
Ideal For Graduates Who:
- Enjoy practical problem-solving
- Like investigating “what could go wrong”
- Are detail-oriented
- Want strong links to operational environments
External Hazards Graduate
Focus: Protecting systems from natural and external events.
About the Role: External hazards include events such as extreme weather, seismic activity, flooding, and external impacts.
Ideal For Graduates Who:
- Are interested in climate and environmental risk
- Enjoy data analysis and modelling
- Like working across disciplines
- Want to influence long-term strategy
Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) Graduate
Focus: Quantifying risk using advanced modeling and data analysis.
About the Role: Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) uses mathematical models and data to understand how systems behave under different conditions.
Ideal For Graduates Who:
- Enjoy maths, statistics, and modeling
- Like working with complex systems
- Are confident with data analysis
- Want deep technical specialism
