Introduction
aerospaceHV is a specialist engineering and test business developing advanced test capability for future aerospace systems, while also supporting sectors such as marine, defence, automotive, power systems and advanced electrification. Our work spans electrical and mechanical engineering, combining safe test execution, practical rig and fixture development, instrumentation, measurement, data analysis and high-quality engineering evidence.
As our workload and technical capability grow, we are strengthening our test engineering team and are interested in candidates from a broad STEM background, including science, technology, engineering and maths. We are particularly interested in people who enjoy practical problem solving and want to contribute to rigorous engineering test programmes in a small, specialist business.
We value professional pride, practical ownership, clear communication, attention to detail and respect for colleagues and customers.
If you have a relevant STEM background, enjoy practical problem solving and want to help develop advanced test capability for future aerospace and other safety-critical systems, we would be pleased to hear from you. This role may suit a graduate, early-career engineer or technically minded applicant who is keen to learn in a hands-on engineering environment.
Job Description
We are looking for a Test Engineer to carry out controlled engineering tests and related technical tasks using approved procedures and work instructions. The role includes electrical and high-voltage test activity, but also involves mechanical preparation, fixture and rig setup, instrumentation, measurement, data handling and practical engineering judgement.
You will work with Project Managers, the Head of Engineering, the Lab Manager and other delivery-team members to plan and deliver test work that is safe, controlled, traceable and completed to the required technical standard. You will be supported as you build familiarity with our procedures, equipment and specialist test methods.
The main responsibilities of the role are:
-
Safe controlled testing:prepare, set up and execute electrical, mechanical, environmental or combined engineering tests in line with approved procedures, work instructions and risk controls.
-
Test-area safety:maintain barriers, signage, access control and safe working practices in laboratory and test areas, including high-voltage or mechanically hazardous setups where applicable.
-
Records and traceability:keep clear test logs, handover notes and deviation records.
-
Measurement and data quality:complete measurement checks, support instrumentation setup, work with test data and identify trends, anomalies or practical implications.
-
Technical reporting:provide clear technical summaries and interpretations to support customer reports.
-
Procedures and improvement:review test procedures, raise improvement needs and support commissioning or validation of new rigs, fixtures, instrumentation and test methods.
-
Equipment, fixtures and lab discipline:use only fit-for-purpose equipment, support practical setup and fixture preparation, flag calibration or equipment issues, and maintain clean, organised test areas.
-
Team contribution:support meetings, customer visits, internal improvement work, training and other reasonable delivery priorities.
Person Specification
Essential
-
Relevant STEM qualification or equivalent practical experience in a discipline such as engineering, physics, materials, instrumentation, applied science or another technical field relevant to practical testing.
-
Experience preparing, executing or supporting technical tests, experiments, measurements or practical engineering work in a laboratory, research, industrial, workshop or engineering environment. This could include university, placement, project, apprenticeship or early-career experience.
-
Safety-conscious approach to laboratory, workshop, industrial or engineering test work.
-
Ability to follow written procedures accurately and raise issues or improvement needs.
-
Strong attention to detail in records, observations, measurement checks and data handling.
-
Ability to work with test data, identify anomalies, recognise practical implications and communicate clear technical summaries.
-
Practical, organised and able to prioritise work across multiple live projects.
-
Commitment to confidentiality, customer property control, controlled records and quality management.
-
Right to work in the UK.
Desirable
-
Experience of mechanical, materials, environmental, reliability, high-voltage, dielectric, electrical insulation or power-electronics testing.
-
Experience with test automation and data acquisition (such as LabVIEW, Python, MATLAB or similar tools)
-
Ability to interpret electrical drawings, mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, instrumentation schematics or test setup information.
-
Practical workshop, mechanical assembly, instrumentation, fixture, rig-building or test-setup experience.
-
Experience in aerospace, marine, defence, automotive, motors, drives, power systems, advanced manufacturing or other safety-critical engineering sectors.
-
Experience contributing to technical reports, customer evidence packs or formal engineering deliverables.
-
Training in electrical safety, mechanical safety, high-voltage working, risk assessment, first aid, workshop safety or laboratory safety.
-
Knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001 or similar controlled-documentation practices.
We do not expect candidates to arrive with experience in every area listed above. Training and support will be provided where appropriate, particularly for specialist high-voltage test methods, internal procedures, safety controls and customer-specific requirements.
