Join CGI. Where your ideas make a difference.

Who we are

CGI’s story began in 1976 with two 26-year-old entrepreneurs, Serge Godin and Andre Imbeau. The two started the company in the basement of Serge’s home with one client, one phone and a lot of ambition. Today, there are over 90,000 of us working across the globe delivering the IT services that matter.

When founded, “CGI” stood for “Conseillers en gestion et informatique,” which translates to “Consultants in management and information technology.” As we grew into a global company, we became known as simply CGI.

Together, CGI's professionals have built one of the leading IT and business process services companies in the world with a long track record of service excellence, innovative services and solutions, and sustainable profitable growth.

Whilst you may not have heard of CGI, you will have heard of our projects!

  • We have supported over 200 satellite missions into space
  • We defend against 43 million cyber-attack incidents each day on military and intelligence networks and infrastructure
  • We work with 23 of the top 25 banks in both North America and Europe
  • We the data services provider for the roll-out of 53 million smart gas and electricity meters in the UK
  • We designed, built and operate the Police National Database used by all UK police forces and containing over 3.2 billion records.

At CGI, we want “to create an environment in which we enjoy working together and, as owners contribute to building a company that we can be proud of.” It really is our partners that will make a difference and help us to be a world class information technology and business process services leader.

Our opportunities

Our students and graduates play a big part in the solutions that we deliver to our clients and have worked on some of the company’s biggest projects. If you join us as a technical graduate or as an industrial placement student you can expect to work on different projects in roles such as Software Development, Testing, Application Management, Data Engineer, Data Analysis, User Research, User Design, and Infrastructure Engineer. Join us as a business graduate or placement student and you will work either as a junior service delivery manager or as a business analyst.

CGI recruit graduates and placement students into our major business units; Space, Defence & Intelligence, North & Australia, Scotland, South & Midlands, GTO, London, Public Safety, and Government & Justice. We work across 10 different industries: Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Retail & Consumer, Energy & Utilities, Financial Services, Space & Defence, Health, Central & Local Government, Telecoms & Media, and Transport & Logistics. Our business units are designed around industries and clients.

We recruit graduates and students into various locations across the UK. Our main hubs for Graduates and Students are in; Aberdeen, Bristol, Bridgend, Chippenham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Gloucester, Leeds, Leatherhead, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Northern Ireland, Reading, Scottish Borders, and Solihull. Due to the nature of our business, you work on ‘projects’. This means you’re never doing the same thing, and you can have different roles across various projects, so there is no ‘typical day’. It also may mean you are working on client site or at any other CGI office aside from your base location. It really does vary at CGI, and you should therefore be prepared for some travel in your role. As part of the selection process, you will be asked to state your business unit and location preferences so we would encourage you to do your research about where you would like to go. Please note that different business units operate from different locations.

Be part of our story.

Are you looking to make a career move that will stretch your talents, and make a real difference? At CGI you can support the digital transformation of the UK in a friendly, collaborative environment.
