Meet Jamie, Head of Education
In my time at the HCPC, I have been supported to grow in my role, and to take further career steps. This has enabled me to work with a wide range of stakeholders to make a difference in the professions we regulate.
We are values-driven in our work, are our corporate values are the backbone of our strategy. We are on an improvement journey at the HCPC - leaders foster a culture of continuous improvement, and staff at all levels are encouraged to think about how we can do things better.
I remain at HCPC because I believe in the significance of our regulatory role, and I sense that I contribute to the effective fulfilment of that responsibility. Additionally, I appreciate the organisational culture; individuals are amicable, supportive, and recognise the crucial role we collectively play.
Meet Yuki, a Product Analyst
My initial role at the HCPC was as a Registration Advisor (RA). In this position, my primary responsibilities included processing UK applications, managing emails, and handling phone inquiries. Engaging in day-to-day tasks provided me with the valuable opportunity to have direct contact with our registrants and applicants. Their feedback served as a source of inspiration.
During my time in the RA role, I witnessed significant technological advancements, such as the launch of the online application process and the implementation of a cloud telephony system. These transformative technologies have enhanced the efficiency of the registration team in serving registrants and applicants.
After six months in the RA role, I was fortunate to be offered a six-month secondment opportunity in the Business Change Department as a Product Analyst. Joining the Product Management Team, I supported Product Managers by identifying issues in the current application, conducting data analysis, and participating in testing activities for new features or application changes. This allowed me to apply my previous work experience in project management, contributing positive insights to improve the customer experience for our registrants and applicants.
As a Product Analyst, I collaborate closely with colleagues from various departments, including Registration, IT, Fitness to Practise, Finance, Insight & Analytics, gaining a comprehensive understanding of how we collectively work to serve and protect the public. The corporate culture at HCPC fosters personal growth and development. The organisation's commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion empowers employees to realise their potential and supports career development.
I am delighted to have been offered a permanent role following the conclusion of my secondment. I look forward to further developing my expertise in testing capabilities for our core regulatory applications.
Meet Miriam, a Hearings Officer
In my role as a Hearings Officer, my responsibilities include ensuring the smooth proceedings of hearings. This involves ensuring all parties have the correct documents and are in the right place at the right time. I oversee the process to ensure it runs seamlessly before, during, and after the hearing.
Being my first career job, HCPC has exposed me to the dynamics of a positive working environment. The emphasis on professional and personal growth is encouraging. Working here has boosted my confidence in asking questions both within and outside the workplace. I'm exposed to various healthcare professions and the regulations governing them. The collaborative effort and commitment among colleagues make the work truly rewarding. The people at HCPC contribute significantly to the overall experience.
HCPC's values of Fairness, Compassion, Inclusion, and Enterprising are not limited to Registrants; they are widely encouraged within the organisation. People are always willing to assist each other, even across different departments.
Clear career growth and development pathways are encouraged at HCPC, allowing for advancement without the pressure of a lack of managerial support or the need to start afresh in a new working environment.
Personally, I have no intention of leaving HCPC in the near future. I thoroughly enjoy my role, my team members, and my managers. The holiday structure at HCPC, along with hybrid working for flexibility, serves as an incentive. The opportunity to travel within the UK for in-person and remote hearings (subject to being a Hearings Officer), encouragement to learn beyond one's role, and company strategies promoting flexibility and engagement with different departments, such as the mentoring programme for newer staff members, all contribute to the positive work experience.
HCPC's culture and values embody togetherness, fairness, inclusivity, enterprising, and compassion. These values underscore our shared humanity and the mutual desire among colleagues at HCPC to support each other in their roles and development.
