Life-changing. For you. And potentially millions. GMTS offers a fast track to becoming a non-clinical senior leader in the NHS.

Who we are

Join the NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme and make a difference to the lives of millions of people. We are the biggest employer in Europe and have placements available across England.

Our scheme offers you the opportunity to develop into a future leader in one of our specialisms including management, human resources, finance, policy and data analytics. Our trainees work in a range of organisations and types of services. You could be improving patient care in a busy hospital department or developing better ways of using data to improve key services as part of an office-based team. You will face challenges and enjoy success on a scheme where no two days are the same. This could be the start of an amazing journey.

We offer six different specialisms;

  • General Management - Leading teams and driving change, at the heart of the NHS. Develop the skills to innovate, project manage, inspire others to support your vision – and deliver exceptional results.
  • Finance - Modelling a better future for communities everywhere. Shape services, find efficiencies, drive effectiveness and develop new ways of working that are better for all.
  • HR - Supporting the people who give so much. You’ll learn how to recruit, support and retain staff and help individuals and teams meet their potential. You’ll improve capability across the NHS to improve patient services.
  • Policy & Strategy - Turning commitments into care. Develop the expertise to understand the challenges of today and those likely to face the NHS in the future. Design the policies and strategies that will ensure the NHS meets the needs of patients today and generations to come.
  • Health Informatics - Create the digital service of tomorrow. Get involved in the design and implementation of data systems to help the NHS improve services and predict the demands on healthcare services in the future.
  • Health Analysis - Using data to bring people back to health. Use statistical approaches to understand data sets and inform crucial decisions on healthcare provision and planning.

Exceptional Learning Opportunities
As well as the experience you gain during work placements and undertaking academic study for your post-graduate qualifications, you will benefit from ‘Action Learning Sets’ and experiential learning. Action Learning Sets support you to reflect on your own experiences in small groups. Experiential learning develops your awareness of your own learning process through scenario-based activity, simulations and other interactive events. Throughout, there is the chance to learn from experts and leaders from all over the NHS at trainee events and through professional networking.

Competitive Salary
You’ll receive a minimum starting salary of £26,382 on commencement, plus where applicable (dependant on the location of your placement) the NHS High Cost Area Supplement (HCAS). This salary is calculated as 65% of the top spine point of a Band 6 salary as per the NHS Agenda for Change pay rates.

Holiday
27 days annual leave increasing with length of NHS service (including reckonable NHS service if eligible), plus 8 bank holidays.

Industry Recognised
The NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme has moved up the prestigious Times Top 100 Graduate Employers ranking, from 3rd place in 2021 to 2nd in 2022. The Scheme also won ‘Graduate Employer of Choice’ in the ‘General Management’ and ‘Human Resources’ categories, at The Times Graduate Recruitment Awards 2022.
