About the role

As a trainee at Winckworth Sherwood, you will have the opportunity to work in four seats across our varied and diverse practice. You will be consistently supported throughout your training contract by your trainee supervisors, and L&D/Recruitment team with training, advice, support and sometimes, just the offer of an informal chat over a coffee. Our trainees get involved in real actionable work from the outset, allowing you to get vital exposure to technical legal work, as well as client exposure, either on the phone or in person.

Our training contracts will be based at our London office at the Arbor Building (Blackfriars), on a full time (35 hours per week), basis.

Tasks will include:

  • Drafting and amending a range of different legal documents.

  • Conducting legal research.

  • Attending client meetings/meetings with third parties and preparing attendance notes.

  • Calling/corresponding with clients to provide updates or request instructions.

  • Liaising and/or negotiating with third parties.

  • Entering and analysing time recorded on our time recording software (Intapp).

  • Producing news articles and legal updates for team meetings/external publication.

  • Presenting to team members and clients on points of law.

  • Case and Transaction Management using our Document Management System, NetDocs.

  • Using legal software to progress instructions including e-disclosure platforms, HMCS systems and/or Land Registry online.

  • Building your personal brand by cross departmental networking and attending internal and external events.

  • Be able to keep up with an ever-changing legal landscape. Your ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines is a testament to your organizational skills.

  • Be able to demonstrate expertise appropriate to the role and your level of qualification.

  • Have a passion for people and providing first class client care.

  • Possess excellent IT skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), with a love for exploring how technology can streamline processes.

  • Have discretion and sensitivity in relation to confidential information.

  • Have a proactive mindset, and an ability to explain complicated concepts in simple terms.

  • Be good at working under pressure, often to tight deadlines.

  • Be willing to work outside of core hours occasionally when events require it.
