Role Overview
The Data Center Technician II supports the physical infrastructure behind Google services. The role installs, configures, tests, troubleshoots and maintains servers, components, Linux-based server software and networking equipment in third-party data centres.
The work includes manual installation and movement of racks and equipment, participation in project teams and maintenance of infrastructure that supports Google AI, Cloud and global services. The role may require weekends, night shifts, holidays and other non-standard or shift-based hours.
Responsibilities
- Deploy and operate new data-centre infrastructure across projects or functions.
- Report equipment or infrastructure issues, follow operating procedures and troubleshoot straightforward faults.
- Protect data security and integrity by tracking media and following Google standards for data handling and erasure.
- Disassemble or maintain end-of-life equipment and replace components as part of a team.
- Repair equipment, servers, machines and infrastructure and complete preventative maintenance using defined solutions and limited guidance.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer or server hardware, or networking protocols.
- Experience completing component-level repairs on IT equipment.
- Ability to move equipment weighing up to approximately 23 kilograms and complete physically demanding work involving bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling and lifting.
- Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends, nights, holidays and shift-based schedules when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting and diagnosing server hardware.
- Fluent English for supporting regional client relationships.
- Intermediate networking knowledge, including basic network topologies and protocols.
- Intermediate Linux skills, including installation, system administration and troubleshooting.
