About Max Fordham
Here, sustainability is not just a guiding fundament but an everyday practice, woven into the fabric of our projects and professional culture. As you expand your expertise, you’ll play a vital role in delivering technical solutions that advance both environmental responsibility and engineering quality, ensuring every project meaningfully contributes to the legacy of the built environment.
Max Fordham is an award-winning MEP engineering practice that is owned by the people who work here, and we are all committed to leading the industry in tackling the challenges posed by the climate and biodiversity crises.
We believe it is a shared responsibility to look after each other, care for our communities, and create a sustainable world. We pride ourselves on providing an open, inclusive and supportive environment for our employees and partners.
About the Role
An exceptional graduate opportunity is available to join our expanding Building Performance Modelling team, in either Manchester, Edinburgh, or Bristol office. As part of this team, you would work collaboratively with our wider building services teams to develop energy and thermal strategies that enable us to deliver world-class sustainable buildings.
This is an engineering position specialising in the use of Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) Virtual Environmental (VE) modelling software. The role involves carrying out domestic and non-domestic modelling for:
-
UK Building Regulations energy assessments
-
Operational energy assessments
-
Overheating assessments
-
Natural ventilation modelling
-
Daylight modelling
-
BREEAM modelling
-
NABERS modelling
The role involves engaging and collaborating with the wider design team to develop the modelling within the project constraints. This is in addition to supporting our project engineers, giving guidance on when modelling is required, the extent of modelling required, sensible approaches to issues, while having the confidence to interrogate the brief received from a project engineer.
Training and support of the extended group of engineers delivering modelling is planned to be delivered from the central Building Performance Modelling team and will form part of this role.
We welcome applications from graduate engineers who are keen to influence positive outcomes: meeting the needs of clients and our society; using design to proactively respond to the climate emergency; communicating clearly and collaborating effectively with our services engineers to deliver world-class sustainable buildings.
About you
We value people with the ability to think analytically and creatively, adopting a first principles approach to create elegant and innovative solutions to practical engineering problems. We recruit and train people who can rise to this challenge.
This role requires a motivated team player who is keen and willing to learn. As such, essential personal attributes for this role include a high sense of ownership for the work that you do. You must care about the presentation and detail of the design and have a great desire to achieve technical excellence and completeness.
Good communication skills are important for this role, both verbal and written, as articulating proposals and results in an engaging way is imperative to achieve a successful outcome. We are looking for an engineer with an attention to detail who has excellent time management and organisational skills as the nature of the work means they will potentially have several projects in progress at once.
To qualify for this role, you should be practically minded and have a background in maths, science or engineering. Ideally you would have a qualification in one of these areas; however, we are open to receiving a broad range of applicants. You should have a great desire to work in the building design industry.
If you have the skills we are looking for, we would love to hear from you.
