Main purpose and scope of job

The Treatment Intern will be responsible for delivering improvements across the HWRC Contracts in Central Bedfordshire and West Northamptonshire. The role will be required to support initiatives in integrating AI, supporting Contractual reporting and compliance, developing our reuse and repair offering as well as ensuring general Site compliance. The Intern will be required to ensure the health and safety of all stakeholders, minimise the impact to the environment and deliver excellent customer service on behalf of our Local Authority Partners. The role will support the Area Manager in ensuring accurate reporting of the P&L with detailed variance analysis to identify areas for improvement and/or organic growth.

Duties and key responsibilities – Contractual and Development

Responsible for their own personal safety and that of all personnel within treatment and the wider business including others who may be affected by the company’s activities. In particular:

  • Understand and ensure compliance with the company SHEQ Policy.

  • Develop an understanding of the contractual and divisional KPIs, supporting with driving improvements across the Contracts

  • Support with the cultural development of the Contracts

  • Support with development opportunities across the Contracts to maximise profitability

  • Integration of AI across the Contracts, working closely with the Area Manager

  • Review of Local Authority Waste Strategy to ensure FCC’s focus is aligned to support future collaborative working

  • Support with Contractual reporting for our Local Authority Partners

  • Development of reuse and repair opportunities across the Contracts

  • Reporting of Social Value across the Contracts

Duties and key responsibilities – Operational / SHEQ

  • Support the Operational Teams to ensure compliance with the FCC Integrated Management System, e.g. risk assessments, safe working procedures, aspects and impacts

  • Support in the training and development of Operational Roles across the Contracts to ensure compliance with regulatory bodies i.e. HSE and Environment Agency

  • Monitor and report against operational performance to ensure achievement of budgeted revenue and EBITDA targets

  • Monitor HR sickness and absence, and interrogate Culture Amp survey reports to identify trends and improvements

  • Liaise closely with the FCC Environment and Health and Safety Teams to ensure compliance with EA Permits, Working Plans and H&S IMS procedures

  • Embrace best practice, understand the wider business and share/implement ideas within the Contracts

Essential Knowledge and training offered

  • Satisfactory completion of the relevant Competency Management System modules.

  • Satisfactory completion of the Certificate of Technical Competence.

  • Completion of all other training as defined within the Training Matrix.

  • Commercially aware.

  • Numerate and financially astute.

  • Commitment and determination to meet personal and team objectives. Excellent drive and resilience.

  • Client/customer focussed to deliver value for money for both public and private organisations.

  • Presence and interpersonal skills to represent the company in contacts with key customers and other interested parties; good negotiation and relationship management skills.

  • Ability to contribute to the overall strategic direction of the business.

  • Full UK driving Licence, own car would be beneficial
