Main purpose and scope of job

Reporting to the Head of Development, Intern will be responsible for supporting on, and the delivery of, projects/programmes as defined within the Development pipeline or wider strategy.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting a range of bidding activities including portal monitoring, initial opportunity assessment, tender, and through to contract handover, liaising with other internal support functions, or external support, as necessary.

Bidding activities will include, but not be limited to, municipal collection, streetscene, grounds maintenance, treatment or disposal opportunities. These will primarily be in relation to bidding activities for local authority contracts and may be through a variety of tender routes as identified in prevalent legislation.

Note, the post holder is also responsible for; the health and safety of staff, contractors to site and visitors to site, the minimisation of impact to the environment whilst working within the site and delivering customer expectations in terms of service and product quality.

Duties and key responsibilities - SHEQ

Responsible for their personal safety and that of all personnel under his or her authority, including others who may be affected by the company’s activities. In particular:

  • Understand and implement the company SHEQ Policy.

  • Appreciate the responsibilities of personnel under their authority and ensure that each employee knows his/her responsibility and are equipped to play their part.

  • Conduct Risk Assessments on activities within their department ensuring that the methods and systems of work are safe. Also that the necessary procedures, rules and regulations designed to achieve this are applied.

  • Conduct Aspects and Impacts analysis on activities within their sites ensuring that the methods and systems of work are such to minimise the impact to the environment. Also that the necessary procedures, rules and regulations designed to achieve this are applied.

  • Provide written instructions of work methods outlining potential hazards and precautions, and ensure they are complied with.

  • Ensure accident/incident and near-miss reporting procedures are understood and complied with, and assist with accident investigations where appropriate.

  • Ensure all employees and sub-contractors are suitably trained/competent to carry out the prescribed task and that the necessary licenses/certificates of competence are in force and appropriate.

  • Set a personal example with regard to health & safety and environment matters

Duties and key responsibilities - Role

The post holder will:

  • Be full time for the duration of the internship

  • Report to the Head of Development.

  • Be based at the FCC Northampton office.

  • Be a fully integrated member of the bidding team(s), taking responsibility for all allocated activities and all allocated aspects of bids.

  • Liaise closely with other Departments (Operations, Fleet, SHEQ, Technical, Estates & Planning, Legal, Finance, Human Resources, etc.) as required.

  • Take responsibility for the development and preparation of bid responses and contract documentation where allocated.

  • Take responsibility for the quality of bid submissions and contribute to the continuous improvement of bid responses.

  • Manage and monitor project/programme delivery plans as required.

  • Implement and maintain all Development procedures and systems and ensure that these are embedded and used.

  • Provide monthly reports as required.

  • Other reasonable duties, as may be requested from time-to-time.

Essential Knowledge

  • Satisfactory completion of the relevant Competency Management System modules.

  • Completion of all other training as defined within the Training Matrix.

  • Good people skills capable of developing and motivating others, and a good communicator.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a capacity of adding value to the delivery of projects and tenders.

  • Sufficiently resilient and robust to effectively manage third parties.

  • Full UK driving Licence, own car would be beneficial
