Programme Information
This industrial placement will provide the opportunity to build your knowledge and experience of asset management including traditional and alternative asset classes, tactical and strategic asset allocation, portfolio management and analysis, fund analysis and macroeconomics. In addition, they will have broad exposure to different teams across the organisation.
We offer hybrid working (a minimum of two days in the office per week) and a generous holiday allowance of 26 days per annum, plus an extra day off on your birthday. The industrial placement will last for 12 months with an annual salary of £30,000.
What are we looking for?
The role is suitable for highly quantitative, independent student, with a keen interest in understanding the asset management industry and construction of investment portfolios. The role requires high levels of numeracy so the candidate should have a good Mathematics A level or equivalent.
The Team
The role is based within the Portfolio Clarity function of the Portfolio Construction team which sits within the Natixis Investment Management Solutions (NIMS) group.
Founded in 2011, the team works with institutional clients in two main capacities. Firstly, and chiefly it completes impartial and comprehensive portfolio evaluations, dissecting clients’ portfolios by asset class, risk and correlation. Secondly it completes fund comparisons for prospective buyers of our affiliated funds to give them a better understanding of their performance and risk compared to their peers and benchmarks. The team and all team members continuously engage with a wide range of internal stakeholders including Legal, Compliance, Risk, Sales, Finance, and Fund Operations.
Responsibilities include
- Conducting fund comparisons and performing comprehensive portfolio analytics.
- Maintaining and updating the allocated areas pipeline, including notes from client calls related to portfolio performance.
- Collaborating on projects with team members and shadowing their efforts throughout the year.
- Assisting in the preparation of weekly macro and market presentations for internal stakeholders.
- Market intelligence gathering, including peer group analysis, and identifying market and product trends.
- Updating team presentations with new team members/changing responsibilities.
- Supporting the continuous collection and analysis of team metrics and statistics.
Skills and requirements
- Experience in a mathematically based subject and knowledge of common financial statistics is essential.
- A demonstrable, keen interest in economics and finance.
- Good organisational skills
- Multi-tasking and the ability to manage a variety of tasks to specific deadlines
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Enjoys working in a progressive global environment
- Comfortable with independent learning.
- Competency in Excel, and an acquaintance with VBA/Python would be useful.
