Main purpose and scope of job
The Treatment Intern will be responsible for supporting and assisting the Contract Management team across all sites attached to the Wigan contract, with specific focus on developing HWRC procedures, supporting the client relationship and assisting with the development of ReUse initiatives and social value opportunities. The Treatment Intern will be responsible for; the health and safety of all staff, contractors to site and visitors to site, the minimisation of impact to the environment whilst operating our sites, exceeding customer expectations in terms of service and product quality and supporting operation of all sites in an efficient and effective manner in line with the annual budget.
The role holder will be expected to engage and learn all aspects of the management of waste operations, which specific focus on identifying and creating opportunities for revenue and social value generation within the community.
Duties and key responsibilities - SHEQ
Responsible for their own personal safety and that of all personnel within Treatment and the wider business including others who may be affected by the company’s activities. In particular:

Understand and ensure compliance with the company SHEQ Policy.

Develop an understanding of the contract operational model, including compliance with waste permit requirements, to support operation of our sites.

Engage with, and support, contract staff with issues and enquiries, to support staff development and safety.

Identify and support opportunities for improvement across all contract sites, especially with regards to ReUse and Social Value.

Attend meetings with client Local Authorities and help and support with queries and opportunities, as appropriate.

Understand and support monitoring of energy usage that contributes towards ISO 50001 compliance.
Duties and key responsibilities - Operational

Support the Operational Teams to ensure compliance with the FCC Integrated Management System, e.g. risk assessments, safe working procedures, aspects and impacts

Monitor all operational working practices to ensure conformance with legislation and generally higher Company standards of quality, safety, and environmental policies.

Build and reinforce relationships with existing customers, regulatory authorities and others to ensure that the company’s image, reputation and achievements are represented to maximum effect.

Establish close links with the communities in which the facilities operate in order to promote and enhance the image of the company.

Ensure through training and motivation that the standards of staff knowledge and performance are enhanced to the benefit of the employees and the company.

Comply with and assist in the implementation of HR policies and the development of training plans.

Liaise with Environment Manager to ensure compliance is maintained at our facilities.

Develop and share best practice within the region and the wider business.

Be adaptable in location to support contract mobilisations
Essential Knowledge and training offered

Satisfactory completion of the relevant Competency Management System modules.

Satisfactory completion of the Certificate of Technical Competence.
-
Completion of all other training as defined within the Training Matrix.
