Role purpose and overview

Subscriptions are a vital part of our business at the Telegraph and future growth strategy. The marketing area is core to delivering these growth targets, being at the heart of the subscriber acquisition and retention activities.

As a member of the marketing team, you’ll rotate through areas of the customer journey specialisms, from acquisition through to retention gaining hands-on training and experience. You’ll identify, support and drive relevant initiatives that help us grow and learn about how a world-class subscription business functions. 

What to expect from the programme:

  • You’ll support the development and implementation of marketing strategies to drive subscription volume growth and engagement across the breadth of Telegraph content.
  • Work with various teams to support the revenue and volume growth of our subscription business, across news and new product launches.
  • Help to deliver the implementation and analysis of our digital performance campaigns, continuously optimising to improve ROI.

Key Responsibilities

Brand

  • Support the day-to-day marketing activities such as adverts in the newspaper, briefing our design team, and reporting on activity performance
  • Promoting new campaigns and the range of features and benefits to our audience, including newsletters, podcasts, our app, and of course our array of content

Performance

  • Working with external agencies on our paid marketing activity, ensuring that the activity is continuously optimised and delivering great return on investment for the business
  • Support our partnership activities, and help to establish connections with other companies and brands
  • Closely work with our Design and CRM teams to drive subscription acquisitions through email marketing

Retention and Engagement:

  • Support delivering the subscriber engagement strategy which aims to drive performance and reduce cancellation attempts
  • Support with reactive multi-channel campaigns to drive engagement with breaking news content
  • Identify opportunities to optimise and improve existing customer journeys to drive performance, aligned to KPIs

Commercial Marketing 

  • Gain a greater commercial understanding of how we complete our onsite journeys, offers and paywalls across our content in order to see more conversion. 
  • Insights into our performance and planning across all areas of our customer journey from reader to subscriber. 

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills, ability to build relationships and work confidently with internal and external teams.
  • Creative, with great copywriting skills and a keen eye for detail
  • Ability to analyse campaigns and make recommendations based on data and insight.
  • Excellent attention to detail, planning, organisational and time management skills with the ability to work to competing tight deadlines under pressure, with a positive attitude
  • A passion and commitment for working in a fast-paced news organisation
