Meet Will an Engineering Year in Industry student

Placement profile

I initially become drawn to AWE through their opportunities of personal development and the opportunity to learn from industry leading experts. Since starting work at AWE, I’ve been blown away by the positive working culture, the flexibility to discover your area of interest and delve into the detail of that interest. It feels like every colleague here is actively looking to prop you up in your career and life, helping you develop both as a person and as a professional!

My placement is based both in Simulation Modelling and Manufacturing Engineering. I became interested very early on by the vast opportunities for personal development the company offers, from personal life development such as the opportunities to learn sign language or detailed career development such as modelling complex systems. Beyond all the opportunities they provide the best part is the working culture, it feels as though all your colleagues are looking to prop you up in your career and life, helping you develop both as a person and as a professional!

Meet Aaron an Engineer at AWE

Graduate profile

I have been interested in nuclear engineering for a long time, so AWE was a perfect fit for me when looking for graduate programmes. AWE boasts some of the best, and sometimes only experts in their fields, and the opportunity to work with and learn from them was another huge draw.

The graduate scheme is very varied, and as someone who wasn’t sure exactly what type of engineer they wanted to be, the opportunity to experience so many different types was invaluable to me. The amount of support available on the graduate scheme is unparalleled, with hours that you can put away for self-development and side projects such as work in other areas, conventions, and university outreach, meaning that you can focus on developing yourself as much as your skills. Training is provided and paid for through the scheme, from engineering specific skills such as NX training to workshops to develop teamwork and leadership skills. Having an ever-growing grad community means that there’s a healthy social life as well, and with our own committee for social events, there’s always something fun to do outside of work hours, especially on the non-working Friday we have every 2 weeks.
