A firm that values legal services for individuals as much as commercial services. I knew my skills and interest aligned with this side of the law, but I still wanted to be immersed in a busy city firm. I was drawn to the apprentice-style contract where your theoretical knowledge can be applied practically on a daily basis.
Did you apply to any other firms?
Yes – Vacation scheme with RPC. Countless applications to firms that did not get past the written application stage.
How many attempts did it take you to get your IM offer? 3
How far did you get each time?
Assessment Centre year 1, Vacation Scheme year 2, final interview and successful contract offer year 3.
How did you feel after not getting through?
Disappointed, frustrated but motivated to try again as each year was one step closer.
What did you do to make yourself feel better?
Embraced the feedback and continued to throw myself into my role as a Chambers Clerk and embrace legal and non-legal opportunities as they arose.
What did you do next to change the outcome?
Focussed on my professionalism, personal brand and growth mindset. This allowed me to gain experience and confidence in my interviewing and assessment skills for the next application process. Further, growing my professional network by continuing to work in the legal sector increased my familiarity with legal tasks, jargon and concepts which transpired naturally in the assessments and interview.
