Meet Rebecca, an account manager at Gist

How did you get into the Logistics field?

“I hadn’t had any experience in logistics before I applied to the Gist graduate scheme amongst roles in other sectors. The application and interview process for Gist really stood out as they were very open about the opportunities within the company and the realities of an operational role, and took the time to get to know me as a person. I wanted to work for a company that invested in its people and they showed me that my skillset would be valuable so it made perfect sense.”

Logistics has long been a male-dominated space, what is it like to work in this sector as a woman?

“Honestly, at times it can be a challenge but it has also taught me a lot about myself. There are ideas and norms of what management within the industry should look like or how they should act, so changing perspectives on all levels has been extremely gratifying.”

What advice can you offer to women who want a career in logistics?

“You don’t need to fit any kind of mould or stereotype which you may see as necessary. You can be absolutely 100% yourself and succeed within an operational logistics environment as long as you are motivated, tenacious and keen to get stuck in!”
