Zainab - Intern Profile

I joined Otsuka Pharmaceuticals in June 2024 as a Global HR intern. Currently, I am studying Psychology at the University of Surrey.

Having been here at Otsuka for a few months now, I have gained valuable experience working in the pharmaceutical industry and HR. My day-to-day tasks typically consists of supporting various functions within (Global) HR this may include supporting with recruitment and the hiring process, coordinating interviews, communicating with Global affiliates, ensuring timely employee onboarding, supporting employees and the business, assisting with payroll and many more.

Aside from my work experience, Otsuka has provided me with the opportunity to enhance and learn new skills from the variety of workshops available, such as presentations skills and career navigation workshops. I have also been participating in various training and development sessions alongside other interns in various departments. Additionally, we met with senior leadership, where they shared and discussed their career navigation journey and experiences with us, which was very informative.

These experiences have been greatly insightful, and I have had an amazing time so far at Otsuka. Otsuka has a brilliant process to integrate interns into the company and I feel very valued as a member of the (Global) HR team and at Otsuka. The ongoing support from my fantastic manager and team have allowed me to progress and learn continuously. I have been able to contribute to significant tasks and projects which has allowed me to participate in working towards our team goals.

My advice to future interns would be to not be afraid to ask questions, make use of all opportunities and resources that come your way and network!
