Now that you’re in your final year in your Finance Graduate Scheme, how did the people and culture you encountered during Insight Week support or inspire you as a woman exploring a career in finance? Were there any interactions that made Sky feel like a place where you could see yourself developing professionally?
During Insight Week, the people and culture I encountered played a huge role in shaping how I viewed a potential career in finance at Sky. What stood out most was how open and approachable everyone was—from graduates to senior leaders. As a woman exploring a traditionally male-dominated field, it was genuinely encouraging to hear colleagues speak candidly about their career paths, challenges they’d faced, and the support systems that helped them progress.
Several interactions were particularly inspiring, especially with women in senior finance roles who were not only visible but vocal about balancing ambition with authenticity. Their willingness to share real experiences, rather than polished success stories, made a career in finance feel both achievable and sustainable. I was also struck by how much value Sky places on collaboration and curiosity; questions were welcomed, and different perspectives were actively encouraged.
Those early experiences made Sky feel like more than just a place to work—it felt like a place where I could grow. Now, in the final year of the Finance Graduate Scheme, I can clearly see how that inclusive culture has continued to support my development, giving me the confidence to challenge myself, build strong professional relationships, and see a long-term future at Sky.
In what ways did taking part in the Insight Week help you develop your early career skills and navigate the graduate application process, and how did that experience influence your decision to continue your journey with Sky?
Through workshops, group projects and networking sessions, I developed a clearer understanding of how to communicate my ideas confidently, work effectively in teams, and approach commercial problems with a structured, analytical mindset. Just as importantly, the sessions on applications and assessment centres gave practical insight into what recruiters are really looking for, helping me reflect on my strengths and articulate them more clearly.
The experience also allowed me to see how theory translates into practice within a real finance function. Speaking with current graduates and team members gave me honest insight into the day-to-day work, the learning curve, and the support available. That transparency, combined with the inclusive and encouraging culture I experienced throughout the week, made the application process feel less daunting and far more motivating.
Ultimately, Insight Week confirmed that Sky was a place where I could genuinely grow and be supported in the early stages of my career. It inspired me to work in a company where the culture was just absolutely amazing!
What would you say to a first-year woman considering applying for the programme, and how do you think the Female into Finance Insight Week could support their personal and professional development?
I’d say: absolutely go for it—even if you don’t feel “ready” yet. It’s completely normal in your first year to feel unsure about your direction or to question whether finance is the right thing for you. The Female into Finance Insight Week is designed for exactly that stage: to explore, learn, and build confidence, not to have everything figured out.
From a personal development perspective, the week helps you build self-belief by showing you what’s genuinely possible. Hearing from women at different stages of their careers, asking questions in a supportive environment, and seeing people who look like you succeeding in finance can be incredibly empowering.
The programme helps you realise that you don’t have to fit a single mould to succeed. It shows that your perspective is a strength, not a limitation. Even if you don’t end up pursuing finance, you’ll leave with greater confidence, clarity, and a strong network. And if you do, you’ll already feel a sense of belonging at Sky—which makes taking that next step feel far less daunting.
