What prompted you to apply to the Version 1 Early Careers programme?

I applied to Version 1’s Early Careers Programme because it felt like the right environment to grow in tech while building on my experience as a GP Practice Manager. I’ve worked in high-pressure, people-focused roles and wanted to take those skills into a new, challenging space. What stood out to me about Version 1 is the strong culture, support for career changers, and commitment to women in tech - it genuinely feels like a place where I could thrive.

What was your experience with the Early Careers programme?

The recruitment process was really smooth and well-organised. After applying, I was asked to send over my CV and complete a personality assessment. Once that was done, there was an interview stage and then shortlisted through to the assessment day. From there, the Version 1 team selected the final 15 of us to join. Things moved quite fast after that - I started just a week later! It felt competitive but supportive, and everything was clearly communicated along the way.

Do you have any tips for someone thinking about applying to the Version 1 Early Careers programme?

My advice for anyone thinking of applying is to be yourself and show your enthusiasm to learn. Version 1 really values people who are adaptable, open to growth, and aligned with their core values. Don’t stress if you’re not from a traditional tech background—just be ready to talk about your strengths, how you work in a team, and why you want to be here. The recruitment process is competitive but fair, so take your time with each stage and be confident in what you bring to the table.

Looking back, what qualities and behaviours do you think you displayed during the recruitment stage that made you a standout candidate?

Looking back, I think what helped me stand out was being authentic and open about my journey into tech. I showed that I’m adaptable, have a positive attitude, and bring valuable experience from a different background—as a GP Practice Manager, I’ve had to lead teams, solve problems under pressure, and work collaboratively with a range of people. I think Version 1 saw that I could bring strong teamwork, resilience, and a genuine eagerness to learn and grow with the company.

What does your role/customer project in Version 1 entail?

In my role at Version 1, I’m focused on building my skills in Azure and DevOps, using tools like Terraform to create and manage cloud infrastructure. Alongside the technical work, I regularly take part in team meetings, contribute ideas, and communicate openly to keep things moving. I’ve taken initiative to upskill outside of project work, whether that’s through certifications or hands-on practice, and I really value the strong teamwork culture here. Everyone supports each other and there’s a shared focus on learning and growing together.

Are you involved in any activities in Version 1 outside of your role?

I’ve been actively involved in Version 1’s ESG initiatives as a Co-Lead for the Education and Employability stream, where we’re focused on creating opportunities for students and early-career talent. I’m currently supporting our upcoming presence at a careers fair to help showcase pathways into tech. I also volunteer with the Women in Tech group and recently helped host a session on the topic of being childfree by choice, which opened up great discussions around personal and professional identity. Being part of both groups has given me a chance to contribute beyond my day-to-day role and connect with others in a meaningful way.
