Roman Hunt-Turner - Jigsaw Trust Testimonial

As my placement year at Jigsaw Trust as a SEN CABAS® teacher comes to an end, I’ve been reflecting on what an incredible and insightful journey it has been. Stepping into this role, I had never worked in the special educational needs field before, meaning I was entering completely uncharted territory. Over the past year, I have been given the opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone, giving me hands-on experience that I couldn't have gained anywhere else. I have developed key skills, such as behavioural analysis and teaching techniques which will undoubtedly carry forward into my future in psychology. Some of my fondest highlights include: Organising and delivering ‘world rhythms music’ and food technology lessons throughout the year. A residential trip to Sayers Croft, supporting the children during a 3-day trip away from home, helping to promote self-confidence, independence and embrace new outdoor activities. Finally, collaborating with my supervisor Chloe Daniels, MEd, UKBA(cert) on a research project targeting contextually inappropriate behaviours, where we successfully implemented a Differential Reinforcement of Incompatible Behavior (DRI) intervention. Beyond the professional growth, the absolute highlight of my time here has been the people. I’ve met some truly incredible colleagues, made great friends, and had the privilege of working with some wonderful children who have made me smile every single day. The dedication, expertise, and care that the team at Jigsaw puts into supporting children with autism is nothing short of inspiring. I am so grateful to have played even a small part in the incredible work they do every day. Thank you to everyone who has made this year so memorable!
