Graduate Surveyor (Non-cognate)

JLL

I joined JLL as a Graduate Surveyor in our Birmingham office, drawn by the firm's global platform and a highly structured graduate scheme that allows you to rotate through different specialties. I spent my first rotation in Living Capital Markets, where a major highlight was working on high-profile city-centre disposals like the Fox Street and Staniforth Street sites near the upcoming HS2 Curzon Street Station. Managing data rooms and coordinating informal tenders for those major residential schemes gave me incredible transactional experience. I’m currently in Commercial Valuations, where I'm focusing on the highly analytical side of the industry valuing Offices, industrial and some Retail assets and learning the market from a totally different perspective. The best thing about working here is the independence you're given to manage your own projects and assets. It's incredibly empowering to take the lead on valuations and client instructions, knowing you have a highly supportive team. The most challenging aspect is the initial transition and getting up to speed in a new department, but overtime as you build confidence and work alongside experienced teams it helps ease you in and continually learn and develop your career. It's a highly collaborative environment where you're trusted with real responsibility from day one.
