Building Surveying is a profession with a wide variety of work. As a graduate, I work alongside senior colleagues to inspect buildings, spot defects, manage refurbishment projects, represent clients in lease-end negotiations, and much more.
The most interesting part of being a building surveyor to me is getting to explore buildings beyond the "Authorised Personnel Only" sign. It's so much fun seeing how spaces are designed and how businesses actually operate in them behind the shopfront. There's also something really satisfying about watching knackered buildings transform step-by-step into something modern and beautiful.

When I was looking for a graduate role, career progression was my top priority. JLL handles such diverse projects that you're guaranteed to get the exposure and experience you need to achieve chartered status. Plus, the APC support here is exceptional, which makes the qualification process far less daunting. There's onboarding training to get you started, working groups that run technical seminars to build your industry knowledge, and a designated counsellor who keeps you on track toward chartership.

The people here are another huge plus. Senior colleagues are willing to spend time with me, answering questions and sharing their knowledge. I’ll be honest, building surveying isn't the easiest profession. But having a safe environment where I can ask questions freely, without feeling stupid or annoying, makes a huge difference. That collaborative and inclusive culture helps me feel comfortable when I’m finding my feet.
