According to the Financial Times, 217,000 applicants submitted for engineering and technology courses in January in 2025, a 14% rise on the previous year. With the competition growing, it's never been more important to look for opportunities to get ahead while you're still attending university.

Luckily, targetjobs offers a variety of engineering graduate events for students from many different backgrounds

BAE Systems Virtual Insights

A virtual event for female or non-binary STEM students, it takes place on the 17th June 2025. BAE Systems is one of the top defence companies in Europe and was founded in 1999.  Hiring 107,000 globally, they have roles in aeronautical engineering, weapons engineering and model-based systems engineering.

At the event, you will gain greater insight into BAE’s 2026 graduate roles. They will discuss the training, the projects and responsibilities. You will also receive advice on the application process and what you can expect if you're accepted.

You will also hear talks from current BAE graduates, where they will provide their insight into what it takes to secure a graduate job with BAE.

For those attending, there will be an introduction to the event followed by a graduate panel with talks from those succeeding in the industry. There will also be an early careers Q&A with opportunities for you to ask questions about the roles.

 Future Female Engineers

This event, taking place in October 2025,  is for female and non-binary students who want to start their career in engineering. The event offers the chance to learn more about top engineering employers who are actively creating diverse and inclusive workplaces. With a Diversity in Tech report finding only 20% of software engineering in the UK were women or non-binary in 2024, this is a great opportunity for those usually underrepresented in the engineering industry.

During the event, you will get to network with people in the industry, speak to top employers and make connections - all of which are invaluable when applying for graduate schemes. You will hear from women and non-binary engineers about their graduate experiences and professional journeys.

You will also learn about different internships, placements and schemes designed to help you have a rewarding and successful career.

During the event, there will be an introduction followed by an engineering related team challenge to break the ice. The second half of the event consists of a skills session and, finally, a Q&A session.

Self Made Engineers

For students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, we host the Self Made Engineers event in Central London. The event is open to students majoring in engineering or another STEM related subject from a social mobility background.

During the event, you will get to network with leading engineering employers committed to inclusivity, as well as engineering professionals who come from similar backgrounds and will be able to advise you. There will be panels and presentations by speakers who have been successful in the engineering career path.

We will host skills sessions with various employers, as well as an engineering related team challenge to help everyone make valuable connections. For those who want to head down the engineering path, we strongly advise to take advantage of networking opportunities like this, not only because it makes entering the field much easier, but it also works wonders for your confidence!

The event concludes with a Q&A session to help guide and support those who want to head down this career path.
