Energy and utilities
The energy and utilities industry is concerned with the sourcing, supplying, distribution and management of natural resources including gas, oil, water and electricity, as well as nuclear energy and renewable energy. Companies working in the energy and utilities industry can broadly be categorised by the type of energy or natural resource they provide (for example, as a water company). Many employers carry out multiple functions as energy and utility providers (for example, sourcing or generating, transportation and selling).
The dominant players in oil and gas (notwithstanding their efforts to diversify into other energy sources) retain the top spots. However, BP has regained the number one position from Shell, which had taken it the previous year.
