Engineering, design and manufacturing
Engineering is the application of science and maths to the design and build of all sorts of machines, structures and processes for a range of industries including: aerospace, automotive, chemicals, consumer goods, marine, rail and telecoms. Employers range from construction, energy, manufacturing and transport companies to the armed forces and government agencies. There are large, well-known companies in this sector, but there are also lots of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Global manufacturers, particularly those that operate in aerospace, continue to dominate the list and the top three employers haven’t changed in their rankings. The two new entrants are both related to transport: rail infrastructure and vehicle manufacturing.
