Construction, civil engineering and surveying

Graduates in the construction industry tend to work for one of three types of employer: consultants, contractors or housebuilders/property developers. Consultants work on the preconstruction and design phases of the projects, while contractors work on site at the actual building phase. Housebuilders tend to work on all aspects of the project lifecycle from acquiring the site to handing over the completed house to purchasers.

Among the top five this year there are no changes, with Arup once again appearing as the most popular employer. Students are perhaps more interested in work on project designs than on site: consultants make up six of the top ten and take the top four places. However, both of the two new entrants to the list are contractors.
