Eliza’s Internship Experience at Siemens

“I had never studied engineering, nor ever thought I would take much of an interest in it, yet here I am working for an engineering company. Before starting here, I had no experience in engineering, and in the first few week when I heard everyone talking about interlocking systems, I thought I might have been in over my head, but everyone around me took the time to explain everything and be available if I had any questions about anything – even to have discussions about what would happen if a tortoise got on the tracks.

When I applied to Siemens, I never would have thought about the experiences that I have been able to take part in, and the opportunities I have had available. Not only have I been able to make a real contribution with my work, but I have been able to meet and network with industry professionals and present my work to senior members of the business.

My experience at Siemens has been incredible, and never was I once treated as ‘just an intern’, with having the opportunity to get stuck into the work that my team have been doing and make a significant contribution as a result of this. I have been able to really find my niche in the industry, and I say that never having thought I would end up in the rail sector – but I now can’t imagine where I would be without it, and I will admit I have become a bit of a train nerd.

The people here have also been incredible, with everyone around you wanting you to succeed and really achieve your best. I have been offered to take part in and help lead our internal AI programme, and I will be staying on with Siemens after my internship and into my final year of university and beyond.”
