The Guardian UK 300: top IT and technology employers

…as voted for by students and graduates

The Guardian UK 300 features the largest and most comprehensive annual survey of student opinion on graduate careers, employers and their own job hunts. The survey determines not only the most popular 300 graduate employers in the UK overall, but also the most popular graduate employers in a range of career sectors, including IT and technology.

The top graduate employers for IT and technology are listed in the table below. There have been considerable changes to the order of the top ten this year, with only Google staying in the same position as last year. Virgin Media and BT are new entrants, at numbers six and nine respectively.

Students interested in IT and technology careers…

  • were, perhaps surprisingly, more likely to be studying a business/management subject (at 24%) than a computer science/IT degree (20%)
  • were arguably likely to have an entrepreneurial mindset: 25% said that they were considering founding their own company during or after their studies, compared to an average across all sectors of 19%
  • were more likely than average to have an internship of two months’ duration by the time they reach their penultimate and final years: 28% penultimate-year students and 39% of final-year students had completed an internship, compared to 21% and 33% on average respectively.*

*Statistics have been rounded.

Over 73,500 undergraduates took part in the trendence Graduate Survey, which formed the basis of the results in The Guardian UK 300.
