UK 300: top IT and technology employers
…as voted for by students and graduates
The UK 300 features the most comprehensive annual survey of student opinion on graduate careers, employers and their own job hunts; more than 71,000 students and graduates took part. The survey determines not only the most popular 300 graduate employers in the UK overall, but also the most popular graduate employers in a range of career sectors, including in technology.
The top graduate employers in technology are listed in the table below. Within this top ten, there is arguably a move away from hardware manufacturers; with the exception of Apple and Siemens, the top employers are mostly software/services providers or retailers. Accenture is an interesting inclusion in that it's a professional services firm, as opposed to a distinct technology company.
Students interested in employers in this sector…
- are probably more entrepreneurial than the average student in our survey: 29% were thinking of starting their own business during or after their studies (versus a 23% average) and 6% wanted to start their own business immediately after graduating rather than work for someone else (versus 4% on average)
- are much more likely than average to have undertaken an internship by the time of their final year (44% of finalists had, versus 39% on average) – but are much less likely to have taken up voluntary or charity work (44% had, versus 50% on average)
- are slightly more likely than average to have attended a workshop run by their careers service (35% had, versus 33%) and to want to engage with employers through on-campus workshops (62% versus 59%).
