What made you decide to come to IBM as a school leaver?

I decided to join IBM as a school leaver as opposed to the more traditional route as at IBM, there is no limit to your growth, what you put in is what you get back out! - When researching firms and other large businesses to apply to, I was continually disheartened from the lack of success stories I was able to find online. IBM is not only a large and successful company; it also proudly shows it is an apprentice confident employer. In my year and a bit with IBM, I have spoken with many apprentices who have had careers I find inspiring and therefore I knew my growth would not be capped for deciding to go down 'the road less travelled' if you will.

What hints or tips would you pass to those who are interested in applying to IBM as a school leaver?

Do your research and really try and find your personal brand! - IBM has a rich history and so it can seem daunting studying up, however by investing sometime after college checking in and watching some clips (even doing a spot of skillsbuild) you will not only be more confident in your application, but it will be clear you have what it takes to be an IBMer. Personal brands are essential in the working world, you need to know what you are about not what you want to be in 10 years time. I found when I took the time to really think about what is most important to me in the way of diversity and inclusion for example, I was able to really show my stuff by the time interviews came around!

What's the best thing about your current role?

My current role is a security role within the UK public sector - although it can be challenging, I love that I can see the real world work me and my colleagues are doing to move the country forward. IBM's public sector clusters are huge and have their very own community feel, and so I would say I love the feeling I get for working on my project.

What support was available to you when starting at IBM?

Upon starting IBM, you quickly find yourself surrounded by friendly faces. From the get go you are met with foundation, our dedicated team of early professional managers and co to help you find your feet. Every member of foundation is passionate about early professionals and our careers. Truth is there is a lot to remember when joining, and it can be daunting, but in no time at all you are doing it like you have been your whole life with the help of our great teams in foundation.

What's the best thing about being at IBM?

At IBM we are at the front line of innovation, therefore being with us here you get to see the world of IT and consulting advancing before you. In this day and age, especially my generation, we are used to the world moving forward and not really understanding any of the mechanics behind advancements in AI for example, however now that I am an IBMer, I can see, research and talk about new advancements that make the news, meaning I am not only part of the change. I am an informed part of it.
