Eman Fatima - Intern Profile

I joined Otsuka Pharmaceuticals Europe in June 2024 as a finance intern. I am currently studying B.Sc. in Accounting and Finance at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Despite only being here for a few months I have gained a lot of information about the business and the pharmaceuticals industry. Having multiple meetings with the Senior Leadership, it has really allowed me to understand the nature of Otsuka Pharmaceuticals. I have also been involved in regular training sessions with the other interns which has helped me develop my professional and presentational skills. By completing SOP training, I have gained a great deal of knowledge about the pharmaceutical industry and how its regulated.

Being part of the financial planning and decision-support team, I have gained essential Excel and Power BI skills. The continuous support by my manager and colleagues has allowed me to grow my technical skills even further. My day-to-day role involves working on templates, using SAP B1 for various reports and raising journals and POs. I have also been working on budget and our current forecast cycle which has been a great learning experience. Since I am part of the rotational scheme I will be moving to the Financial Reporting and Analysis team. Here, I will be involved in Audit and Year End analysis. Additionally, the social events as well as the opportunity to travel within my role has made my job even more exciting.

My advice to those applying is to make sure you network and say ‘yes’ to every new opportunity that arises. Keep in mind that no question is a stupid question, so make sure to get all your queries resolved; your team is here to help and support you. I will highly recommend keeping a journal on all the activities and projects you have been involved in and what you have learnt. This will be great for when it comes to building your CV later.
